Caring For Your Palm Sunday Palms

Caring For Your Palm Sunday Palms

With Palm Sunday just around the corner, it's time to get those special palms ready for the congregation. But as sacred as this tradition is, it can be just as challenging to ensure those palms stay fresh and vibrant. Follow these essential care instructions to keep your palms in pristine condition for the big day.

Care Instructions

Step 1: Box Inspection for Quality Assurance

Upon receiving your palm order, always check the contents of the box to make sure the order is correct. Look for any signs of damage that might have occurred during transportation. This attention to detail ensures the palms aren't compromised before the ceremonial day.

Step 2: Preserve Freshness Before Unveiling

To keep the palm strips fresh, DO NOT OPEN the plastic bags until you are ready to hand the palms out to the congregation. Sealed bags of palms should remain unopened until the last moment to prevent wilting.

Step 3: Cool Storage is Key

Keep sealed bags of palms in a cool area. A florist, restaurant, or convenience store may have a large refrigerated space you can store the palms in until Palm Sunday. Remember, a cool temperature between 40F and 50F is ideal — DO NOT FREEZE the palms, as this will cause them to become brittle.

Step 4: Prevent Heat Build-up

For individuals who do not have access to refrigerated storage, a well-ventilated and cool area is a suitable alternative. Nevertheless, take the following precaution: open each box and take three or four UNOPENED plastic bags of palms out. When left undisturbed in their packaging, heat may accumulate within the bags, leading to early wilting. By removing a few bags, the remaining palms will have better airflow and are more likely to stay cooler and fresher.
