Lost and forgotten for over 100 years following its debut, Notre Dame des Angesmissed the Bouguereau art revival that took place in the early 2000's for a simple but powerful constraint: there were no colored prints available. The striking colors of the beautiful painting by Bouguereau, whose pieces are often noted to have more subdued hues, are its defining characteristics, and the sepia-toned versions that had long been on the market simply did not do the work justice.
